I love popcorn, just not on my ceiling!

Last weekend we removed the sheetrock
Of from the final wall to be knocked down. We have been working on popcorn removal as time permits this week. All in I would say it has taken about 4 hours to scrape.

Of course it was sheet rocked on both sides!

How to remove a popcorn ceiling:

1. Apply water with a squirt bottle or sprayer.

2. Wait a minute or two.

3. Scrape with a wide putty knife.

It comes off like butter. We used small tarps to catch the bulk of the popcorn ceiling on the floor. The mess was not too bad to clean up, and I can't wait to hit the other ceilings in the house this winter.

Next up: installing a header so we can completely remove the dividing studs.

Are we there yet?

Its been awhile since I posted our trials and tribulations with the renovation, we've been slowly working on it as schedules permit.

Below is the interior view of what was once our garage and then my brothers bedroom and most recently guest accommodations (pic was taken right after company left which is why the bed is pulled out).

Once our company left we got to work on ripping down the wall.

Mission for the weekend is to put up all the insulation on the walls and ceiling.  Since it is going to rain, we shouldn't have any distractions.

There's finally a goalie in the family

My cousins and I needed a goalie in the family about 30 years ago when we used to play at family gatherings.

Mike's debut was impressive, but I am not sure we can give credit to the knowledgable coaching his father gave him a few seconds before the whistle blew.

Interesting defensive tactics...Y M C A!

It's finally time for the BIG one to begin! I have been waiting for this day, for quite some time.

Background story:

When we bought this house there was a one car garage attached to what I would guess was used as a
bonus room / bar. There was a huge bar with its own jen-air cooking grill and sink behind it.

Over the past six years, we ripped out the bar, and made the space into a second living room.  We converted half of the garage into a bedroom for my brother when he moved in. When he moved out we ripped down the wall, opened the bedroom into the living room and added a French door to the backyard.

DUN DUN DUN! (Classic sound effect for something spooky)

We are going to merge what's left of the garage into the living space and the transform the room into an open-concept kitchen and living room.

The process got rolling this weekend when we ripped down the garage door and enshrouded the opening.

Tyler needed a little Ramundo (Grandpa)--get started juice....

Here is where she stands until this weekend.

Next up--
Get thing ready for the inspectors visit. We have to take down an illegal wall and remove sheetrock from my brothers old room, since we didn't have a permit when that conversion was done.

I'll try to get some inside photos up, so you can see how big the job is going to be.  My guess on the timeline is one year, I haven't asked Tyler his guess, probably 2 months...he gets a bit delusional on how long things take, especially when you have to consider the ole stand and stare factor :-)

Stay posted.
